JOHANNESBURG - Some of the biggest names in comedy have been honoured at the Savanna Comics Choice Awards this weekend.
Local funny man Skhumba Hlophe scooped the Savanna Comic of the Year Award, as well as an accolade for his one man show.
Hlophe, Elton Mduduzi Ntuli, Thabiso Mhlongo and Mojak Lehoko were some of the big winners at the event held at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre in Johannesburg.
The theme for this year’s awards was the freedom of funny.
Actress Celeste Ntuli, who attended the event, says the comedy industry in this country is blossoming.
“I love the fact that challenges how we think and our views as South Africans and Africans. Now we’ve got people from other parts of the continent, which is amazing.”
